Actofy Guide

A Blinkist alternative for visual learners

If you like pictures with your explanations, these are the apps that describe more visual formats, and what each one is like.

Last updated

If you learn best with pictures, look for a summary app that shows ideas visually instead of only in text or audio. Blinkist's core format is audio and text. Other apps describe more visual formats: Imprint (visual, interactive lessons), Deepstash (short idea cards with artwork), StoryShots (infographics and animated content among its formats), BookWatch and Braintoon (animated video summaries) and Actofy (narrated video chapters and illustrated pages). Which suits you depends on the kind of picture you want. Publicly described features as of September 28, 2026; prices and availability can change.

What “visual” can mean in a summary app

Apps use the word for very different things. A still infographic, a card with artwork, a whiteboard animation, a narrated video and an illustrated page are all called visual, and they suit different moods and situations.

Before you compare apps, decide which of these you want. If you want to watch, look at video formats. If you want to skim at your own pace, look at cards or illustrated pages. If you want to interact, look at lessons with quizzes.

What “more visual” can cost you

Visual formats are usually slower to take in than text, their libraries are usually smaller, and some need sound or a connection. That is a fair trade if pictures help you, and a poor one if you mainly want speed and range. Decide which matters more before you switch.

When switching is not worth it

If you are happy with your current app and only wish it had a few more pictures, switching may cost more than it gives. Try a visual app alongside it for a week first, or use a visual app for the few books you most want to see explained, and keep the rest where they are.

Where Blinkist still fits

Blinkist's own listing describes audio and text summaries, a free daily title on its Basic plan, and premium plans. If what you like about Blinkist is the speed and the range, a more visual app may not be what you need. If what you miss is pictures, the apps above are where to look.

How to test whether visual helps you

“Visual learner” is a preference, not a diagnosis, and no format suits everyone. The most reliable test is your own: pick a book you already know, open it in two apps, and read or watch one chapter in each. Then explain the main idea out loud without looking. The format that makes that easiest for you is the one to keep.

Where Actofy fits

Actofy turns selected ideas from books into narrated video chapters or illustrated pages. Formats vary by title, and the selection is smaller than large libraries. Visuals and narration are AI-generated. Create a free account, preview a title, then choose Actofy Pro if you want more.

Not for everyone. Actofy's selection is smaller and its formats are video chapters and illustrated pages. If you want text or audio summaries of many books, other apps describe those formats.
