Actofy Guide

Illustrated pages or video chapters: which suits you?

Actofy calls them Read visually and Watch. Here is how the two formats differ and when each fits.

Last updated

Illustrated pages (Read visually) let you flip through an idea at your own pace, quietly. Video chapters (Watch) explain an idea with narration and moving pictures. Formats vary by title: some titles have illustrated pages, some have video, some have both. Pick the one that fits where you are, and check the title before you commit time to it.

The two formats

Read visually is a set of illustrated pages. Each page pairs a picture with a short explanation of one idea and an example, and you move through them at your own pace. It works without sound and without a long sitting.

Watch is narrated video, organized into chapters so you can jump to one idea and replay it. An internet connection is required for video playback.

Both are Actofy's own commentary on selected ideas, with original visuals. Visuals and narration are AI-generated.

Side by side

A short comparison of how the two formats behave:

Read visually and Watch
Read visually (illustrated pages)Watch (video chapters)
PaceYou set it: flip forward, stop, go back. The video sets it; chapters let you jump and replay.
SoundNot needed.Narrated; plan for sound.
ConnectionCheck the app for the title. An internet connection is required for video playback.
Best whenYou are in a quiet place, want to skim, or want to linger on one idea. You want to sit back and let an idea be explained.
Trade-offLess motion, more reading.Less control over pace within a chapter.

Titles differ in which formats they have

Formats vary by title. For example, Atomic Habits and The 5 AM Club have illustrated pages and a short trailer video, and video chapters are in the works; The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has illustrated pages, and video is in the works. Each book page says what is available today: see the books.

A format marked In the works can't open yet.

How to choose

If you are in a quiet place or cannot play sound, read visually. If you are cooking and want an idea explained, watch. If you want to revisit one idea, either format works: use chapters in video, or go back a page.

If you want to see what the pages look like before you install anything, open a title such as Atomic Habits and read the first three ideas.
